Rio de Janeiro is one of Paulista's favorite weekend destinations. Within a 50 minutes flight from São Paulo, you'll find one of the world's most beautiful natural settings for a city, but the dazzling landscape is only one of the many reasons to visit Rio. The city has so many attractions that it can be difficult to know exactly where to go to make the most of your visit and enjoy it like a real Carioca! Here are (itk) we_recommend blog suggestions for a great weekend in Rio, at any time of the year.
IF BEACH IS WHAT YOU WANT... Choosing the right "posto" for you is essential when it comes to stretching out on the sand. These "postos" mark off the most famous beaches in Rio into sections and different types of people tend to congregate in each area. Families usually favor the section between posts 11 and 12 (Leblon beach) because they are less busy, posto 12 has even a sandy play area for children; unfortunately, the water at these posts is not great for swimming as it is polluted by bordering canals. Post 12 is also the section where you can find well-heeled Rio crowd and celebrities sunning on the beach, who live in the chic neighborhood of Leblon nearby . Young and cool crows prefer "postos" 9 and 10. This section was made famous in the song "The Girl from Ipanema", and remains one of the most popular spots in Rio today, attracting fit sunbathers, artists and tourists alike.
Some hotels offer beach service, such as the Marina and the Fasano, so while staying in one of those, it is best to enjoy it.
These beaches are bordered by a grid of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but do not miss the traditional brunch at Confeitaria Colombo, at the Copacabana Fort! The fort, built in 1914, now houses the Historical Army Museum, and its outdoor cafe is a great spot to enjoy an excellent brunch and a beautiful view of Copacabana beach and the sea, and if you go early you might see the fishermen selling their catch from colorful wooden fishing boats or people practicing stand-up paddle boarding. AFTER THE BEACH After a few hours on the beach, nothing like a healthy snack at BB Lanches corner, a classic for Cariocas. Try the açaí in the cup or açaí juice and the chicken sandwich. If you're craving for something more like bruschettas and a good Aperol Spritz, head to Prima Bruschetteria, a small and charming spot nearby. Another excellent option in Leblon is Celeiro restaurant, a fancy healthy food emporium, with an ample selection of salads and dishes prepared with fresh and organic products. In the Ipanema area, our favorite place to have lunch after the beach is Zazá Bistrô. Do not miss the ceviche, super fresh for hot summer days or the spicy curry for a change!
You can also enjoy the brand new Riba Praia, the first modernized kiosk located at Leblon side walk that opened just two months ago. Super cool!

WATCH THE SUNSET
Definitely the best place to watch the sunset is on Arpoador ("posto" 7, on the border between Ipanema and Copacabana), a 500 meters long beach that is popular with families and surfers and has a laid-back, romantic vibe. Take one of the short walking trails to the top of the Arpoador Rock to enjoy a dazzling unrestricted 360-degree view and watch the sunset silhoette of the "Morro dois Irmãos", a must!
The Urca neighborhood is also a great place to watch the oranges and reds of the sunset over the harbor; take a seat on the seaside wall opposite the Bar Urca as waiters bring you drinks and appetizers adding to your sunset in Rio experience. When in Ipanema, choose the spot in front of the street Vinícius de Moraes to enjoy the sunset from the beach at the "Quase Nove" kiosk, drinking a beer, a caipirinha or "agua de coco" and listening to the bands that play on the street on weekends.
For a more exclusive experience, go to the Fasano Hotel Boutique; you don't need to be a guest to enjoy the great drinks, lively atmosphere and stunning view from the rooftop bar during happy hour.

NIGHTLIFE IN RIO DE JANEIRO
In the evening, choose one of the many great restaurants on the popular Rua Dias Ferreira for dinner. Sushi Leblon is the most famous in Rio, where you can find famous faces and international celebrities any night of the week. Try the scallop sushi with lychee and the hedgehog ceviche, simply delicious! Brigite's and Zuka are also great choices, the first has a wonderfully creative menu focusing on Mediterranean cooking, with a Brazilian touch, the latter offers innovative well prepared contemporary cuisine in a modern setting. At Brigite's, do not miss the heavenly chocolate and hazelnut souffle, while at Zuka, adventure to try something different and order the marzipan ice cream with soft eggs for desert, because after all, what is life without dessert...

After a nice dinner, there is no place more fun to go out at night than Lapa! Lots of bars and show houses and a vibrant nightlife liven up the crowds that roam the famous Lapa arches. There is everything there. But be careful with your belongings, and always be aware when walking on the streets, choose small bags so you can relax and dance free. Where to go in Lapa?

At "Zona Sul" (south zone), some fun options are to listen to Bossa Nova music from the 70s at the Vinicius Bar, have a caipirinha at Jobi, a local cozy bar in Leblon beloved by Cariocas or a draft beer at Guimas, a very traditional spot, with a simple and friendly atmosphere and service, at Baixo Gávea, another locals' favorite.

ATTRACTIONS OFF THE BEACH A neighborhood to walk One of the great options for a day-of-the-beach is a stroll through the Jardim Botânico neighborhood. Start the day at the wonderful Botanical Garden of Rio, to beat the crowds and see the 600 species of orchids and the delicate Japonese garden, refuel after an hour walk with a delicious pastry at La Bicyclette. Then you can head up to Lopes Quintas street, where you will find many cool design stores.
Another beautiful place worth a visit in this neighborhood is the Parque Lage, whose 1920's-style mansion houses a gallery -usually showing interesting exhibitions-, a School of Visual Arts and a popular café, all inside of what it is today a public park, with walking trails trough a subtropical forest, at the foot of the Corcovado.

Also, do not miss the opportunity to visit the Moreira Salles Institute, a hidden gem to enjoy art and nature and the perfect place to forget about the city hustle and relax. The modern architecture and the Burle Marx gardens by themselves are worth the visit, but it always has interesting, well curated exhibitions, and the collection of photographs and images is incredible. There, you will find the recently opened second location of Jardim Emporio – a mix of bistro, bakery and deli - with an amazing breakfast menu served all day, where you can mark all the items you want. Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas The four-mile path encircling the large lagoon known as the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas is a favorite spot for joggers and cyclists. There are several open-air cafés and small restaurants, like the known Palaphita, offering stunning views of the lagoon and the beaches beyond.
Santa Teresa Another stroll that holds pleasant surprises is the historic Santa Teresa neighborhood! The region invite visitors to step back in time and experience the faded elegance of the Rio of the 19th century. The neighborhood recently got its much-loved trolley back on the rails and now you can take a tour of the region in the famous yellow streetcar (the only one remaining in the city), from Monday to Saturday, from 11am to 4pm. Santa Teresa has many attractions, including the Chacara do Céu Museum, the Ruins Park, the Selaron Stairs and the lively Largo do Guimarães, located in the heart of the neighborhood on Almirante Alexandrino street, filled with bars, restaurants and shops. Bar do Mineiro, is a neighborhood classic – try here the feijoada or the tasty apetizers-, as well as Espírito Santa restaurant, a colorful, indigenous-themed small restaurant with a nice view. It serves Brazilian cuisine made with fresh ingredients and interesting traditional drinks versions, such as the cupuacu caipirinha. For most sophisticated dinning experiences, Aprazivel offers contemporary Brazilian cuisine, but most people go especially for its breathtaking views; for a unique dinning experience you can reserve a table in the tree house. Térèze is another fine dinning option that has been rated one of the best in the city, serving delicious French dishes with a Brazilian touch, by Chef Damien Montecer.

Praça Mauá
Praça Mauá is part of a daring project to revitalize the port area of ??Rio de Janeiro - Porto Maravilha - and the waterfront is now home to two brand new and super modern museums: the MAR (Rio Art Museum) composed of two interconnected buildings that are quite different, with an extensive visual art collection and a rooftop restaurant called Mauá that is reason enough to visit; and the futuristic Museu do Amanhã (Museum of Tomorrow), with an exhibition that is largely digital and explores man's impact on the planet. The new Praça Mauá has free wifi, a large square with benches, space for events, and also serves as stage for presentations of street artists. You don't even feel like you're in downtown. Recently, the VLT (Light Rail Vehicle) was inaugurated for the Olympics Games, bordering the entire port area, an excellent option for those who want to get to know the "old" Rio without having to walk a lot.

Estando no Rio, claro que a primeira parada é a praia! Mas a escolha do “posto” é essencial na hora de se estender na areia. Alguns hotéis oferecem serviço de praia, como o Marina, Fasano e Copacabana Palace, então, estando em um deles, o melhor é aproveitar. Mas se quiser variar e ver gente bonita, o posto 12, no Leblon, e os postos 9 e 10, em Ipanema, são as melhores opções.
Você também pode começar o dia com um tradicional café da manhã na Confeitaria Colombo, no Forte de Copacabana! A construção antiga e o visual debruçado no mar são uma experiência encantadora, e a confeitaria é um dos clássicos da época áurea do Rio. Mas chegue bem cedo ou se prepare para filas de espera aos sábados e domingos!

DEPOIS DA PRAIA
Depois de algumas horas na praia, nada como um lanche saudável e classicamente carioca no BB Lanches. Ótimas opções são o açaí no copo (ou suco de açaí para os paulistas) e o sanduíche de galinha. Se a vontade for bruschettas e um bom aperol, escolha a Prima Bruschetteria, pequenina e charmosa, ali pertinho. Uma outra opção excelente e rápida é o Celeiro, conhecido restaurante e empório de comida saudável com um certo requinte. Em Ipanema, o melhor local para almoçar depois da praia é, sem dúvida o Zaza Bistrô. Não deixe de pedir o ceviche de entrada, leve e refrescante! Você ainda pode aproveitar o novíssimo Riba Praia, primeiro quiosque modernizado da região inaugurado há dois meses na Orla do Leblon, bem próximo ao posto 11. Super cool!

FIM DE TARDE
Em Ipanema, escolha o ponto bem em frente à rua Vinícius de Moraes e aproveite o melhor lugar para ver o entardecer, a barraca "Quase Nove". Copacabana é ideal para passear o calçadão no fim de tarde, assim como assistir ao pôr do sol do Arpoador, um programa imperdível! A Urca também é uma região das mais agradáveis e reúne gente bonita neste horário na famosa “mureta”, com vista para o Cristo Redentor. Não é preciso ser hóspede para desfrutar dos ótimos drinks no bar do Hotel ou uma noite animada no Londra, que fica cheio de gente bonita. O mesmo vale para o Copacabana Palace: é possível tomar café da manhã ou drinks no bar da piscina no fim da tarde, um must do.

À noite, escolha um dos incríveis restaurantes da rua Dias Ferreira para jantar. O Sushi Leblon é o mais famoso do Rio, peça o sushi de vieras com lichia e o ceviche de ouriço! O Brigitte e o Zuka, de cozinha contemporânea, também são ótimas opções! No Zuka prove a sobremesa de sorvete de marzipan com ovos moles!

Não há lugar mais divertido do que a Lapa! Ruas cheias, muitos bares e casas de show – vale sempre conferir a programação antes de ir – animam as multidões que circulam pelos famosos arcos da Lapa. Há de tudo por ali. Todo cuidado é pouco com bolsas e apetrechos, por isso esteja sempre atento ao andar na rua, e dê preferência à bolsas pequeninas para ficar tranquila e dançar à vontade. PASSEIOS São ótimas opções para um dia of-praia passear pelo Jardim Botânico do Rio, maravilhoso, ou escolher um lugar super bacana para tomar café da manhã como o La Byciclet, ali ao lado! Aproveite para dar um pulo até a rua Lopes Quintas, onde há muitas lojinhas de design superinteressantes, ou aproveite para dar uma volta de bicicleta – é possível alugar as do Itaú em vários pontos - na Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, onde muitos fazem esportes. Por lá há vários quiosques e pequenos restaurantes como o famoso Palaphita.
No Instituto Moreira Salles as esposições e visitas são gratuitas, e o acervo de fotografias e imagens é incrível, com imagens dos séculos 19 e 20 e coleções como a de Claude Levi-Strauss, da década de 1930. Lá, há o Empório Jardim - mistura de bistrô, padaria e deli – com um menu incrível noc afé da manhã que é como de hotel, onde você marca todos os itens que deseja. Os ovos marroquinos são must have e não saia de lá sem comer os gougéres?e levar os cookies fresquinhos para viagem. Aproveite para conferir a programação cultural do “IMS”.
O Parque Lage com seu palacete construído por volta de 1920 pelo arquiteto italiano Mario Vodret também vale a visita. Além da própria construção e dos imensos jardins e cavalariça, o Parque também abriga a Escola de Artes Visuais, e há sempre exposições interessantes. O café da manhã no Café du Lage também é famoso!

SANTA TERESA
Outro passeio que guarda agradáveis surpresas é Santa Teresa! Com ares de antigamente o bairro recebeu de volta o bondinho, desativado há 50 anos, e dá para passear pela região nos vagões de segunda a sábado, das 10h às 18h, com acesso gratuito. Paradas obrigatórias por lá, de dia ou de noite, são o Bar do Mineiro, um clássico do bairro – peça a porçãozinha de pastéis de feijoada – Bem como o restaurante Espírito Santa, um pequeno e colorido restaurante indígena com uma bela vista. Serve cozinha brasileira feita com ingredientes frescos e versões interessantes de bebidas tradicionais, como o cupuacu caipirinha. Para experiências de jantar mais sofisticadas, o Aprazível oferece cozinha brasileira contemporânea, mas a maioria das pessoas vai especialmente por suas vistas deslumbrantes; para uma experiência única à noite você podereservar uma mesa para jantar na casa da árvore. O Térèze é outra opção gastronômica requintada que foi avaliada como uma das melhores da cidade, servindo deliciosos pratos franceses com um toque brasileiro, pelo Chef Damien Montecer.

PRAÇA MAUÁ
A Praça Mauá faz parte de um ousado projeto de revitalização da área portuária do Rio de Janeiro – Porto Maravilha – e ganhou dois museus novíssimos e super modernos: o MAR (Museu de Arte do Rio) composto de dois prédios interligados que são bastante diferentes e o Museu do Amanhã, construído inteiramente do zero e, com um aspecto bem futurista. A Nova Praça Mauá possui wifi livre, uma grande praça com bancos, espaço para eventos, além de servir de palco para apresentações de artistas de rua. Nem parece que estamos em pleno centro da cidade do Rio. Recentemente, foi inaugurado o VLT (Veículo Leve sobre Trilhos) que margeia toda região portuária e serve de transporte para vários pontos do centro. Uma excelente opção para quem quer conhecer o Rio Antigo sem precisar andar muito.
