VILA NOVA CONCEIÇÃO: chic and charming!

Is the Upper East Side your type of neighborhood in NYC? Then Vila Nova is where you want to be!

Vila Nova Conceição can be defined as quiet, discreet, safe, sophisticated, predominantly residential and full of beautiful trees. It is considered the most “chique” neighborhood in town. These are the characteristics that make it such a charming and attractive place to live in, but in consequence, properties here rank as the most expensive square meters in town.

At the heart of the Vila lays Praça Pereira Coutinho full of trees, gardens, restaurants and happy neighbors always willing to enjoy its safe and busy atmosphere. Around the Praça or a block away on Rua Afonso Bras, you will find all you need for your everyday life - supermarkets, drug stores, elegant restaurants, fast food restaurants, boutiques, gas stations, book stores, hair dressers, taxis, etc., all at a short walking distance. When running your errands on Afonso Bras, don’t miss the sumptuous sweets at B.Lem Portuguese bakery and the authentic croissants and brioches at Marie-Madeleine, my very personal favorites in all Sampa!

Ruas Jaques Felix and Domingos Leme showcase some of the city’s best restaurants including famous sushi restaurant Kinoshita where you can also learn some tricks from its famous chef, such as how to fry Tempura while dipping your hand in boiling hot oil! And don’t miss the Moti and Belgian Chocolate dessert that melts in your mouth.

Other favorites are Josephine with traditional French cuisine, amazing Atimo with caipira/Italian food and Figo with an interesting menu of Nouvel Mediterranean, both on Diogo Jacome. One of the best organic restaurants in town is here as well, Le Manjue where you can fully immerse in Brazilian food with their plate “Sabores do Brasil” that includes Pirarucu, Pupunha and Pequi (100% national, organic ingredients).

The Saturday morning “Feira de Rua” on Diogo Jacome is a paradise for foodies and anyone who loves fresh ingredients. Vendors come out every Saturday with the freshest variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, fish, meat and even cheese and charcuteries. But you can’t attend the feira and not indulge with a delicious “pastel”—served piping hot and accompanied by “vinagrete”, there is no better snack to calm the cravings while you shop. After, you can finish off your snack with the best Greek yogurt in town freshly made every day at Delicari on Lourenco de Almeida just around the corner. Personally, I wouldn’t even bother with any other Greek yogurt in Sampa, Delicari’s is the only real thing!

Exclusive boutiques and shops are hidden around the neighborhood. Famous brands like Le Lis Blanc, John John, Animale, BoBo and many others have stores here. But you can also find amazing places that are exclusive to the Vila, such as Urbanopop, a cozy design store with charming and elegant gifts and Torre de Papel, a cozy bookstore. At Urbanopop look for Lucia, the owner, who can tell you interesting family stories about Brazilian art. And to relax after shopping, indulge in one of the many treatments at L’Occitane SPA on Rua Domingos Leme - their hot stones massage is my personal favorite!

The Vila’s back yard neighbor, Parque do Ibirapuera, only adds to the charm and attractiveness of the area. Ibirapuera is Sao Paulo’s “Central Park” and offers a beautifully designed green and open space ideal for the practice of several sports, as well as multiple cultural attractions (for more information about Parque do Ibirapuera, check-out the specific post).

Easily accessible to several main streets of the city (Avenida Santo Amaro, Avenida Brasil, Avenida Sena Madureira, Avenida 23 de Maio, etc.) and just a few minutes away from important and busy neighborhoods as Itaim Bibi, Moema, and the Jardins region, Vila Nova Conceição is at the heart of all that is happening in São Paulo.
