AMERICAN SOCIETY OF SÃO PAULO: supporting American traditions and fostering Brazilian cultural integ

The American Society of São Paulo (AmSoc) promotes friendship by organizing social, cultural and athletic events for its diverse membership; encourages integration with the Brazilian society and supports the American traditions of education, philanthropy and volunteerism. Membership is open not only to Americans, but to anyone from any country.

The current President, Richard Wegman and the Vice President, Judy Zanchi, lead a 20 person Board that oversees the association of over 800 members. To join, simply access AmSoc’s site and chose the type of membership you want: Single (R$300), Family (R$400) or Helping Hands (R$800- half of the membership fee goes directly to an AmSoc sponsored charity).

When becoming a member, you and your family will receive ten printed newsletters per year mailed to your home, and will have access to a private AmSoc Facebook page. You will have priority to participate in every event and most times AmSoc members will also receive discounted pricing. Members only are invited to a FREE 44th of July event, and a Members only FREE Annual General Meeting & Cocktail party.

Also, you will be welcome to join a series of exclusive events:

  • Youth Sports Program/Little League-held Saturday mornings for Kids ages 5-12

  • Annual Charity Gala Dinner/Dance-held in May

  • Parties and events (Kids Halloween, Easter, Annual Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Labor Day)

  • Regular Happy Hours

  • Global Gamers Club

  • Let’s Connect event-for business contacts

  • Opportunity to work with the children in the 9 charities that AmSoc helps support

Throughout all these activities, the American Society helps the American community to mingle in São Paulo. One of the annual events promoted by the association volunteers is the Angel Party, a beautiful charity event for over 200 children from several charity institutions. Another type of activity represented the beginning of IntheKnow: the first trip to Inhotim, in Minas Gerais, which had more than 18 participants and was organized by AmSoc members. “It was an unforgettable trip, which was the start point to many friendships and lasting partnerships!” shared the Intheknow co-founder Claudia Kiatake.
